Who Will Stand and Fight?

Congress appears to be up to its same old tricks.

As you know, they passed a new “Pay Go” law that requires them (Congress) to fully fund any new discretionary spending.  It was signed into law by our dear president on February 12, 2010.

But, it didn’t take them long to bust this short-lived commitment to fiscal sanity.  No surprise.

Just this past week, the Senate was pushing through a $10 billion emergency transportation and unemployment funding measure.  Problem was that it was another unfunded piece of legislation…exactly what they said they weren’t going to do under the “Pay Go” bill.  Go figure.

Senator Jim Bunning (R-Kentucky) was the only senator to stand up and try to stop this fiscal insanity.  He didn’t oppose the bill, per se.  He simply opposed Congress spending money without funding the spending…in direct violation of “Pay Go”.

Well, as a result of his lone man stand, Senator Bunning was criticized, ostracized and crucified by democrats and even by some republicans who didn’t appreciate the potential political fallout that might result from delaying dispensation of unemployment checks.

I say “Good for Senator Bunning”.  Had I been in Washington, I would have been standing right beside him trying to stop the fiscal insanity that continues unabated.  I say “Not a single penny more added to our national debt.”  Either we find the money we need to pay for new entitlements and expenditures or we simply do without!

No wonder Congressional poll ratings are at record low levels.
